Mitchell Fox

Mitchell is a freelance journalist and fact-checker and a Master’s student at Western University. He is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s journalism program, a former sports editor at The Eyeopener and Editor-in-Chief at Intermission Sports.

A multimedia journalist with a passion for storytelling and social justice. Find my work at The Eyeopener, Intermission Sports and Maclean’s.

In undergrad, I did a lot of work with Intermission Sports and The Eyeopener.

Features are my preferred medium, whether in sports, arts or beyond.

With OSINT skills and a love for research, investigative reporting is my goal.

With lots of editing and fact-checking experience, I’ll lend eyes to any edit.

From sports to nature to events, photography is another medium I enjoy.

I produced, hosted and edited a hockey show, “Intermission Snapshot.”

Career Highlights

Co-producing The Eyeopener‘s 2025 sports issue, “Blurring the Boundaries,” was incredibly fulfilling. For this 20-story print and online edition, my co-editor Daniel and I sought stories of people pushing limits in sports. The ambitious project fused my love for sports, passion for research and desire to make a difference through journalism.

The 2025 U Sports University Cup put a bow on everything I’d done at TMU. Our team from The Eyeopener travelled to Ottawa and covered not only the TMU Bold’s journey to a fourth-place finish but the entire tournament. This all came days before “Blurring the Boundaries” was published, making for a busy, yet unforgettable, weekend.

During my final semester at TMU, I was fortunate to intern at Maclean’s. At the St. Joseph’s Communications, I met journalists I look up to and learned a ton about the inner workings of the Canadian magazine industry.

I am now a regular freelance fact-checker for Maclean’s, checking essays and features covering innovation, politics, healthcare and more.

Covering the Mississauga Steelheads for Intermission Sports allowed me to harness my skills as an interviewer and writer. I curated relationships in the press box and put my skills in reporting, analysis and news writing to work, including reporting on the team’s move to Brampton.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League kicked off at a perfect time as the Toronto Sceptres played their first season at TMU’s Mattamy Athletic Centre. As part of Intermission Sports‘ coverage, I reported on the first “Battle on Bay Street” at Scotiabank Arena.
