Mitchell Fox

Mitchell is a freelance journalist and fact-checker and a Master’s student at Western University. He is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s journalism program, a former sports editor at The Eyeopener and Editor-in-Chief at Intermission Sports.

A multi-media journalist pursuing to inspire change through stories of passion, purpose and social justice. Find my work at The Eyeopener, Intermission Sports and Maclean’s.

With lots of editing and fact-checking experience, I’ll lend relentless eyes to any edit.

News basics lead my work, but long-form and feature writing is my preferred medium for immersing in people’s passions and pursuits.

I have the digital skills, including OSINT, to find and tell online stories. However, I am committed to not using generative AI.

With experience producing for broadcast, podcast and social media, I can create stories for several audiences at once.

From sports to nature to events, I’m always happy to tell a story through pictures.

I seek stories of impact and injustice and apply a critical eye, whether on climate, education, social justice, sports or beyond.

Career Highlights

After completing my undergrad at TMU, I attended Western University in London, Ont. to complete my Master of Media in Journalism and Communication (MMJC) degree. It was an exhilarating experience in a new city, where I gained even more hands-on experience as a multi-media journalist and developed new skills in communications.

The 2025 U Sports University Cup put a bow on everything I’d done in undergrad. Our team from The Eyeopener travelled to Ottawa and covered the whole tournament, including the TMU Bold’s journey to a fourth-place finish, with reporting, photos and social media content. This all came just before “Blurring the Boundaries” was published, making for an invigorating weekend.

I am now a regular freelance fact-checker for Maclean’s, checking essays and features covering innovation, politics, healthcare and more.
