My name is Mitchell Fox and I am a graduate student in Western University’s Master of Media in Journalism and Communications (MMJC) program and a freelance journalist and fact-checker. I graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) Bachelor of Journalism program in June 2025.
During my undergraduate degree, I picked up a ton of experience in sports journalism. I was Editor-in-Chief at Intermission Sports, a student-run site where up-and-coming writers reported on leagues such as the PWHL, CEBL and NSL and a sports editor at The Eyeopener, TMU’s independent student newspaper. Nevertheless, my interests and reporting abilities stretch well beyond sports, as my focus was always on advocacy and the role sports can play in making the world a better place. That’s part of what co-editor Daniel Carrero and I aimed to accomplish with Blurring the Boundaries, the 2025 sports issue of The Eye that I would say is my biggest accomplishment yet.
That same year, I was also an editorial intern at Maclean’s magazine. There, I found my passion for keeping a tab on Canadian news, politics and national psyche while developing skills as a versatile multi-media freelancer. Now, I am glad to say I can pitch, report and write; edit and fact-check; shoot photos and video and assist in print, digital and broadcast/podcast production.
My goal is a career in investigative or long-form journalism, but I enjoy a large variety of stories and mediums. You can find more about my work on my experience page or my Blog. If you have a story you think should be shared, please feel free to reach out.
Otherwise, I am a sports fanatic, an advocate for social justice causes, a fan of all things music/entertainment and a homebody. When I am not writing or editing, I can be found spending time with my friends and family or lounging around with my family dog, Shelby.
I hope this site helps to paint a picture of who I am, my interests and how I apply it all in my pursuit of reliable, meaningful reporting.
